5:1 Moses and Aaron went in. It is significant that Moses was able to gain immediate access to Pharaoh and that Pharaoh called him by name (Exodus 5:4). 5:7 make brick. Sun-dried mud bricks, both with and without straw, have been found by archaeologists in Egypt.
5:8 tale of the bricks. This phrase means, literally, “measure of the bricks”–that is, the length when laid in rows, to measure the space they would occupy in a building.
