Why does God oftentimes allow those who name the name of Christ to go through great trial and adversity; insomuch that the temptation arises to doubt the very presence of God?

"And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which He had done for Israel" (Judges 2:10).

"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34).

"Joseph is a fruitful bough . . . whose branches run over the wall: The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him" (Genesis 49:22-23).

"Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11).
