Biblical Questions

“Where is He that is born King of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2).

Questions are asked throughout the New Testament about the Lord Jesus Christ. Some are asked by the sincere seeker, others by the cynic, and others by Christ Himself.

The inquiries provide a somewhat panoramic view of the life and ministry of our Lord. Questions surrounding His birth. “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man” (Luke 1:34). Answer: the miraculous virgin birth, as was prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 and quoted in Matthew 1:23. “Where is He that is born King of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2). Answer: Bethlehem, as prophesied in Micah 5:2. Micah not only mentions Bethlehem as the birthplace of Christ, but also that He would “be ruler in Israel.” Questions concerning His Messianic office. “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” (Matthew 16:13). Answer: Messiah. Peter stated, “Thou art the Christ [Messiah, Anointed One], the Son of the living God” (v.16). Questions concerning His person. “Art thou then the Son of God?” (Luke 22:70). Answer: Yes. The same council members that would not believe in His full son-ship or deity condemned themselves to eternal death when they insisted to Pilate that Jesus be condemned to physical death. Unless one believes in the full deity of Christ, “he will die in his sins” (John 8:24). Questions concerning His worldwide authority. “Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?” (Revelation 5:2). Answer: Christ, the Lamb. Christ rightfully holds all power and authority over the earth. Questions concerning His coming. “Where is the promise of His coming?” (II Peter 3:4). Answer: “He that testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20) NPS
