Trailer for New Moses Documentary

Filmmaker Tim Mahoney recently released a trailer for a new documentary that ought to be of great interest to Bible-believing Christians and skeptics alike. The movie, Patterns of Evidence: The Moses Controversy, answers the question: Did Moses really write the first five books of the Bible? The trailer can be viewed at the Fathom Events website.

Mahoney’s popular 2015 documentary Patterns of Evidence: Exodus discussed the historical evidence for the Exodus and received very positive reviews by several creation ministries, including ICR.1,2,3 As we noted in our 2015 online discussion of the original Patterns of Evidence movie:

Filmmaker Timothy Mahoney’s award-winning documentary Patterns of Evidence: Exodus does an excellent job presenting this evidence [for the Exodus] to a wide audience. While Mahoney allows viewers to render their own verdicts, the evidence he presents is so strong that it’s difficult to avoid the conclusion that biblical critics simply are not being objective in their evaluation of the historical data. Mahoney presents jaw-dropping corroboration for the historical Joseph, the sojourn of the Israelites in Egypt, their descent into slavery, the plagues on Egypt, and the destruction of Jericho.1

Mahoney’s second documentary addresses the claim by secular academics that Moses couldn’t possibly have been the original author or editor of the first five books of the Bible—the Torah. Liberal Bible critics routinely claim that the Pentateuch was written centuries after the time of Moses, casting doubts on the reliability of the eyewitness record. Worse yet, this claim implies that the Lord Jesus Himself was in error when He affirmed the Mosaic authorship of those books (Matthew 8:4, Matthew 19:8, Mark 1:44, Mark 7:10, Mark 10:3-6, Mark 12:26, Luke 5:14, Luke 20:37, Luke 24:27, Luke 24:44, John 5:46, John 7:19, and John 7:23).

Conservative scholars have already soundly refuted these claims,4 but it will be interesting to see what additional arguments Mahoney has marshaled. Since ICR staff members haven’t yet seen the movie, we can’t officially endorse it, but if it’s anything like Mahoney’s first movie, it ought to be spectacular.
