New Defender's Study Bible Notes

17:25 Ithra an Israelite. The record in I Chronicles 2:17 says that Amasa’s father was “Jether the Ishmeelite.” Aside from the two different forms of the same name, the probable explanation of this difference is that Jether (or Ithra) was an Ishmaelite proselyte to the faith of Israel.

17:25 daughter of Nahash. Abigail is said to be the daughter of Jesse in I Chronicles 2:13-16. Possibly Nahash was the same individual as Jesse. Also there is a possibility that Abigail’s mother was previously married to Nahash, with Abigail later being adopted by Jesse.
