New Defender's Study Bible Notes
11:10 waterest it with thy foot. In Egypt, agriculture depended upon irrigation with water from the Nile obtained through dams, channels, gates and other appurtenances, requiring much labor and personal attention. In the promised land, God Himself would water their crops, by means of the early and latter rains (Deuteronomy 11:14), along with natural drainage. This meant there also would be abundant pasturage for the cattle (Deuteronomy 11:15).
11:18 frontlets. Small leather cases containing Scripture verses, and worn on the forehead.
11:26 blessing and a curse. Obedience and disobedience would bring God’s blessings and God’s chastisements, respectively, promises later fulfilled in abundance.
11:29 curse upon mount Ebal. These blessings and curses were later pronounced on Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal, respectively, just as here instructed. See Deuteronomy 27:11-26 and Joshua 8:33-35.
