New Defender's Study Bible Notes
16:3 abideth at Jerusalem. This slander of Zeba against Mephibosheth was untrue. See II Samuel 19:24-30.
16:5 Bahurim. Bahurim was a town east of Jerusalem, near the Jordan. David and his men were weary and camped there (II Samuel 16:14) until Hushai would later advise them to cross the Jordan (II Samuel 17:16).
16:5 Shimei. Shimei was a Benjamite relative of Saul’s who held David responsible for the death of Saul and his sons (II Samuel 16:8). His curses were not obscenities but rather imprecations, calling on God to bring a curse on David and his followers.
16:22 unto his father’s concubines. This event both fulfilled Nathan’s judgmental prophecy (II Samuel 12:11-12) against David because of his sin and also signaled to all Jerusalem that he was taking over all the prerogatives of the king (note II Samuel 3:6-11).
