24:6 the anointed of the LORD. See also I Samuel 26:9,11,23; II Samuel 1:14; Psalm 105:15. From such verses has come the oft-used modern warning to “touch not the Lord’s anointed.” Whether this warning not to slay God’s specially anointed king can legitimately be applied to questioning a modern pastor is at least debatable.
24:11 my father. David was here reminding Saul that he was actually his own son-in-law. Saul then called David “my son David” (I Samuel 24:16).
