New Defender's Study Bible Notes
52:1 Zedekiah. The portion of this chapter from Jeremiah 52:1-27 is almost the same as II Kings 24:18–25:21.
52:17 carried all the brass of them to Babylon. It is significant that none of the accounts of the vessels carried from the temple to Babylon—whether here, in II Kings 25:13-17, or in II Chronicles 36:7—include the most important and valuable item of all. Even the brazen pillars and sea were taken, but not the ark of the covenant! God would never allow the ark and its contents—especially the stone tables of the law—to fall into pagan hands again. The ark was probably translated—like Enoch and Elijah—to the heavenly temple; the Apostle John saw it there (Revelation 11:19) when God translated him to the future to see and write the events of the last days.
52:29 carried away captive. Among those carried away to Babylon were Ezekiel and Daniel (see also Jeremiah 52:24-25,28,30; Ezekiel 1:1; Daniel 1:1-6).
52:30 carried away captive. Jeremiah 52:28-30 indicates three waves of captives taken away from Judah by Nebuchadnezzar—3023, 832, and 745 persons, respectively—a total of 4600 altogether. Others were put to death (Jeremiah 52:27), and many escaped. The “poor of the land” (II Kings 25:12) were left in the land.
52:31 Jehoiachin. The last four verses of Jeremiah (52:31-34) are practically identical with II Kings 25:27-30.
