3:5 the tempter. “The tempter,” of course, is Satan. He is called this elsewhere only in Matthew 4:3, in connection with the testing of Jesus.
3:6 from you unto us. This special commission, sending Timothy to Thessalonica to teach the believers there and to return with a report on their state, may be mentioned in Acts 18:5.
3:12 increase and abound. “Increase and abound” could read “increase in order to abound.”
3:13 with all his saints. When the Lord Jesus Christ returns, He will bring with Him all His “holy ones”—both angels (II Thessalonians 1:7) and redeemed men (I Thessalonians 4:14).
