New Defender's Study Bible Notes
26:6 Abishai the son of Zeruiah. Abishai was David’s nephew (I Chronicles 2:15-16), and later became recognized as one of David’s “mighty men” (II Samuel 23:17-18).
26:9 Destroy him not. The similarities between this account and the events of I Samuel 24 have given skeptics an occasion to argue that they really are both describing the same act. However, the details of the two are far too different for this to be the case.
26:9 against the LORD’s anointed. This warning of David’s (in context applying specifically only to the potential slaying of Saul) has often been misused to justify letting pastors and teachers continue teaching false doctrine or practicing immorality. However, believers should not continue under the instruction of such teachers (II John 9-11; II Timothy 2:16-18; 3:5; etc.).
26:25 went on his way. This was the last meeting between Saul and David. Despite Saul’s promise, David realized that Saul would still seek to slay him if he had opportunity.
