18:2 the potter’s house. The making and use of pottery in the ancient world was essential and ubiquitous. Today, the remnants of their pottery have become a chief tool of archaeologists and cultural anthropologists. Pottery vessels also became an important symbol of God’s work in human lives (e.g., Romans 9:20-23; II Timothy 2:20-21).
