National Geographic News recently stated that a species of Russian moth with a thirst for human blood demonstrates “evolution at work.”¹ The moth, Calyptra thalictri, was filmed boring into a researcher’s thumb, evidently to draw a blood meal.

There are at least a half-million species of plants in the world. Although they do not contain living souls,¹ plants nevertheless display incredible design features and complex interactions with other plants and insects. Plants have immune systems that seem to be every bit as biochemically complex as those in vertebrates.

Some evolutionary scientists are upset that many newly-minted science graduates are scientifically illiterate. In a recent article in The Scientist, writer Richard Gallagher states,

The increasing amount of research at the cellular level has boded ill for the naturalist who insists that life must be interpreted (strained?) through a Darwinian explanatory filter. For instance, recent studies have focused on ion channels, which are passages designed to transport charged atoms (ions) through a membrane formed by a specific protein or proteins on the surface of cells.
