Pulse . . . Pulse . . . Pulse . . . Pulse . . . What could it be? It was so regular flashing at one-and-a-third seconds--keeping exact time. Nothing like this had been seen before.

Jocelyn Burnell and her supervisor, Prof. Antony Hewish, were at Cambridge University when they discovered this peculiar phenomenon. Jocelyn said during an interview: "One of the ideas we facetiously entertained was that it might be little green men—a civilization outside in space somewhere trying to communicate with us. . . . It did seem to be a little bit going off the deep end to say we had detected signals from another civilization. But the name stuck. We referred to this radio source as LGM-1."

And what had they found? It was a rapidly rotating neutron star, now called a pulsar, broadcasting without artificial aid. That briefly summarizes how the first pulsar ever discovered was named LGM-1.

Little green men, indeed! Would scientists really even contemplate such a possibility? Not only did they contemplate it, but also millions of dollars (your dollars!) are being spent by NASA to search for intelligent life in outer space. And why are they searching? Is it because there is evidence that there are beings on other planets? Not at all. It is solely because of their belief in evolution.

On October 12 of this year, the search began in earnest. This date was the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' historic landing. Nasa magazine, Fall 1991, stated that on this date "a new group of explorers will venture forth in a vastly larger sea. These New-World children, some 25 generations removed from Isabella's reign, will begin listening to distant stars for signs that humans are not alone in the universe."

This undertaking, called the Microwave Observing Project, will be managed by the NASA Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program office. This project is part of NASA's Exobiology Program to "understand the origin, evolution and distribution of life in the universe."

As already stated, the sole reason for SETI is because NASA is so committed to accepting evolution as fact. Following are some excerpts from a news sheet dated May 17 1991 distributed from the SETI office to explain the rationale behind the project:

Part of NASA's charter for research is to study the origin, evolution and distribution of life in the universe. NASA has an active Exobiology Program in its Headquarters Division of Life Sciences that include:

studies of the formation of biologically important atoms and molecules in space;

research on the origin and evolution of life on Earth;

the search for life on other planets in the Solar System;

the search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.

In a SETI information sheet it has stated: "Since the evolutionary changes that led to life intelligence and technical civilization on Earth seem to be in No way peculiar to our planet it seems likely that life has arisen throughout the cosmos. Given enough time and favorable environmental conditions, biological complexity and intelligence may also have evolved in many locations . . . there may now be about 10 million advanced civilizations in our Galaxy alone."

How are they going to go about this research? In summary they will be using radio telescopes and other electronic equipment to look for pulsed signals as well as continuous-wave beacons. In other words, the SETI project is designed to look for artificially generated signals (ordered sequences) from nearby regions of the Milky Way.

Just as Jocelyn Burnell contemplated "little green men" when she discovered the regular pulses from what we now know is a pulsar so the scientists from the SETI project will get very excited if they find some sort of regular pulse from outer space they can’t explain.

Do you know what is so illogical and inconsistent about all of this? All these same scientists have to do is to exchange their telescopes for microscopes, look down into the cells of every living creature and observe the DNA making up the chromosomes, and they will see the most complex code, the most complex information system the most complex language system, the most complex ordered sequence in the entire universe. Then they look at this and say "CHANCE!" Yet if they receive the most simple ordered sequences possible from outer space they are prepared to say "INTELLIGENCE!"

These scientists have never seen a complex language system like our DNA evolve by chance. They know it takes information to get information yet they refuse to contemplate that intelligence is responsible for life here on Earth. They refuse to accept the possibility that the God of creation as spoken of in the Holy Scriptures is that Intelligence—the infinitely intelligent God of creation. They refuse! Why? It would mean that this Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord over them. They would have to knee and worship Him and accept responsibility for their sinfulness and their need for salvation.

As these scientists look into outer space, it is as if they are shaking their fists at Jesus Christ, defiantly saying: " We refuse to accept you as Lord over us!"

Well we have some news for NASA: They don’t have to waste millions of our dollars searching for intelligence somewhere out there. Without the aid of even a telescope look up at the night sky. And what do you see?

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth His handiwork (Psalm 19:1).

Take a microscope and look at our DNA. And what do you see?

For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20).

No matter what scientists observe ultimately, all evidence leads back to the book of Genesis!

Why is there such a fervor among these scientists as they search for intelligence in outer space? I believe it is as Paul explains in Romans 1:19: "Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them." They know deep down that there is a God. Every human being has a God consciousness, which the Creator has placed there. That is why the Greeks in Acts 17, even with all their idols, still had an altar to the unknown God. In their hearts they knew there was more to life than what they had and these NASA scientists today know there is Intelligence greater than they. They know there has to be a higher Being than just us here on this earth. In a sense they are desperately trying to find God, not accepting that God has already found them.

The God of the universe has provided us a written revelation—the Scriptures—about One who came to earth and became a man so He could pay the penalty for our sins and enable us to live with Him forever.

These scientists can use their telescopes and electronic equipment but the Scripture remains true: "For this peoples heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart and should be converted, and I should heal them" (Matthew 13:15).
