"I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you" (John 8:37).

The Bible graphically describes the person who gives no place to the word of God in his life. The spiritual condition of such a person is revealed as follows:

1. He is spiritually dead: Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you" (John 6:53).

2. He is in a state of hopelessness: "That at that time ye were without Christ . . . having no hope, and without God in the world" (Ephesians 2:12).

3. He is withering away: "And some [seed] fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away" (Mark 4:5-6).

4. He is one who disregards God entirely: "They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. There is no fear of God before their eyes" (Romans 3:12,18).

5. He is one who trusts in gods who cannot save: "And they . . . called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered" (I Kings 18:26).

Yet, in spite of these negatives, there are positives that should rejoice the heart of the unsaved causing him to flee to Christ. First, the door of salvation has been opened through the shed blood of Christ—"Without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22)—making forgiveness (remission) possible. Second, salvation is opened to all who receive Him. "God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him" (Acts 10:34-35). NPS
