The Victor's Crown
"And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible" (I Corinthians 9:25).
Ancient athletes who "strove for the mastery" devoted their whole lives to training and were "temperate in all things," hoping thereby to receive the victor's crown someday.
