One of the most familiar passages in the Bible--familiar because of its frequent appearance on Christmas cards and in Christmas sermons--is also one of the most profound and mysterious passages in the Bible. I am referring to Isaiah 9:6,7.

“I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?” (I Corinthians 6:5).

“And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ” (Matthew 1:16).

“Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia” (1 Peter 1:1).

“Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit” (I John 4:13).
