Johanan and the rest of God’s remnant in Judah, with apparent piety and in respect of Jeremiah’s now-confirmed reputation as a true prophet of God, requested that he pray for God to reveal His will concerning their next move. However, this was merely a sham, since they had already determined what they wanted God to tell them to do (Jeremiah 42:20).
