Abortion has become firmly entrenched in American society. To many voters on both sides this is the only important issue. Abortion has become almost a "sacrament" to feminists.

“Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme” (I Timothy 1:20).

Paul had placed Timothy as overseer of the churches at Ephesus and throughout Asia minor. Timothy was not without opposition as we see in our text, but neither was he without resources.

“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God” (Hebrews 6:1).

“And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him” (Acts 20:37).

“. . . God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (I Timothy 2:3,4).

The verses preceding our text encourage believers to be in prayer “for all men” (v.1), including “all that are in authority” (v.2), that our own lives might be “quiet and peaceable,” as well as for their salvation.
