What is the Gap Theory?

One of the popular devices for trying to accommodate the evolutionary ages of the geologists and astronomers in the creation record of the Bible has been the "gap theory"—also called the "ruin-and-reconstruction" theory.

“Being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (Hebrews 1:4).

“Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that Antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time” (I John 2:18).

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night” (Psalm 1:2).

“The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun. Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter” (Psalm 74:16,17).
