The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) provides accreditation to leading Christian nonprofit organizations that faithfully demonstrate compliance with established standards for financial accountability, fundraising, and board governance. Members include Christian ministries, denominations, churches, educational institutions, and other tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations. ICR has been an ECFA accredited member since 1986.
The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence has been awarded to ICR. The Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that ICR meets the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the U.S. Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.
Charity Navigator awarded ICR four out of a possible four stars. In earning Charity Navigator's highest four-star rating, ICR has demonstrated exceptional financial health, outperforming most of its peers in its efforts to manage and grow its finances in the most fiscally responsible way possible.
