Nations That Forget God

“The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem” (Lamentations 4:12).

It is one thing to know that God will eventually cast down those nations that have opposed Him and rejected His word, but American Christians need to realize that He will not spare even once-godly nations if they fall away.

The great kingdom of Egypt was finally made “the basest of the kingdoms” (Ezekiel 29:15), and proud Assyria was “brought down” (Zechariah 10:11). The glory of Babylon was even greater than these, but God said: “I will make thee a burnt mountain” (Jeremiah 51:25), and He did. Then the vast Persian empire fell, and Greece fell, and even mighty Rome was brought down. Genghis Khan, Napoleon, and Hitler all prospered proudly for a time, but God cast them down one by one.

Jerusalem and the chosen land of Israel were special in God’s sight. “For the LORD hath chosen Zion; He hath desired it for His habitation” (Psalm 132:13). And yet, when the rebellious apostasy of its people finally exceeded God’s long-suffering mercy, Jerusalem itself was brought low. If the Lord spared not “the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most high” (Psalm 46:4), it would be presumptuous to think He will spare America much longer.

“For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required” (Luke 12:48). America, the most privileged nation in all history, founded on the principles of creationism and the authority of Scripture, is already far down the road of apostasy. God and the Bible have been banned from our schools and public institutions, and even silent prayer banned by our Supreme Court. We need to bring America back to God before it’s too late. “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God” (Psalm 9:17). HMM
