This judgment reaffirms I Thessalonians 5:3: “When they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them…and they shall not escape.” There is little peace in the world today, with local wars or guerrilla activities in perhaps fifty different nations, not to mention record violent crime in the schools and on the streets. The world is urgently looking for a world leader who can bring real peace to the earth. When the Antichrist comes, he will do just that, but only for a very brief period. When the red horse rides, wars and crime and anarchy will fill the earth as never before in history. The restraining influence of Christians in the world will have been removed by the rapture (see notes on II Thessalonians 2:1-12), and this will result.
