33:17 the throne. God’s unconditional promise to David of an eternal kingdom (II Samuel 7:16) can be fulfilled only in Christ, for all other descendants of David were written off as a result of the wickedness of King Jeconiah (see notes on Jeremiah 22:30; compare Luke 1:31-33).
