Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
 

6:32 Jerubbaal. Gideon’s father seems to have been brought back to the true God by his son’s courage, giving his son a new name meaning “Let Baal plead.” The name “Gideon” means “hewer.”
