New Defender's Study Bible Notes

12:4 prevailed. When Jacob wrestled with the angel, just before meeting Esau again, he once again showed “power with God and with men, and hast prevailed” (Genesis 32:28).

12:4 Beth-el. Beth-el (the house of God) became also Allon-bachuth (the oak of weeping) when the aged Deborah died there. Following this, Jacob was again named Israel (a prince with God), and so Hosea again looks forward to the ultimate preservation and restoration of Israel (Hosea 12:13).
