There are four key people in the Bible who were said to be “well stricken in years” or “well stricken in age.” The first were Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 18:11) who were the parents of Isaac, who would be the forerunner, so to speak, of Israel and the dispensation of law, just as Elisabeth and Zacharias (Luke 1:7,18) were to be the parents of John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ and the dispensation of grace. All four were past child-bearing age when God sent both promised sons into their respective homes.
