New Defender's Study Bible Notes
14:1 in Timnath. The town of Timnath had been assigned to the tribe of Dan (Joshua 19:43), but the Danites had been unable to take it from the Philistines. Samson was of the tribe of Dan. His insistence on a pagan Philistine wife was, of course, unlawful for an Israelite. Nevertheless, God used this event as a means of beginning the release of the Philistine yoke on Israel.
