New Defender's Study Bible Notes
26:9 Destroy him not. The similarities between this account and the events of I Samuel 24 have given skeptics an occasion to argue that they really are both describing the same act. However, the details of the two are far too different for this to be the case.
26:9 against the LORD’s anointed. This warning of David’s (in context applying specifically only to the potential slaying of Saul) has often been misused to justify letting pastors and teachers continue teaching false doctrine or practicing immorality. However, believers should not continue under the instruction of such teachers (II John 9-11; II Timothy 2:16-18; 3:5; etc.).
