32:2 children of Gad. In addition to the tribes of Reuben and Gad, half of the tribe of Manasseh participated in this arrangement (Numbers 32:33).
32:4 Even the country. The lands these tribes requested were the lands recently conquered from Sihon and Og, kings of the Amorite tribes east of the Jordan (Numbers 21). The promised land, on the other hand, was the land of Canaan, west of the Jordan River, and Moses was angry at the implication that these tribes were trying to avoid the future battles for the promised land, and thus repeating the sin of their fathers forty years earlier (Numbers 32:13-15).
32:23 find you out. Although this warning was issued specifically to the tribes of Reuben, Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh, exhorting them to fulfill their commitment to participate with the other tribes in the campaign in Canaan, it expresses a universal principle. No sin against God or His Word will remain secret and unpunished.
32:30 But if they will not. The alternative implied here is that, if they did not participate fully in the conquest, they would have no choice, in the subdivision of the lands, receiving only what was left after all the others had been allotted their portions.
