New Defender's Study Bible Notes
2:10 isles of Chittim. Chittim is the Old Testament name for Cyprus, and Kedar represents Arabia. In every direction were peoples that were true to their false gods, but Israel had proved false to the true God.
2:13 fountain of living waters. The beautiful phrase, “living waters,” occurs first in Song of Solomon 4:15 and last in Revelation 7:17. See also Jeremiah 17:13; Zechariah 14:8; John 4:10-11. It is a lovely picture of the gift of eternal life found in Jesus Christ.
2:15 lions roared upon him. Israel had been wasted by the Assyrians, and the Egyptians had begun to plunder Judah. Noph (or Memphis) and Tahpanes were major Egyptian centers.
2:18 waters of Sihor. Sihor was a term for the Nile River in Egypt. The “river” of Assyria was the Euphrates.
2:27 brought me forth. Such a belief is the folly and tragedy of evolutionary pantheism. Even more absurd than the ancient belief that life evolved from sticks and stones is the modern dogma that all living creatures have evolved from non-living chemicals in a primeval soup. Only the living God can create life.
