New Defender's Study Bible Notes
14:6 like dragons. Some translations render this word as “jackals.” However, the Hebrew word (tannim) means “monsters,” and may refer either to land or marine monstrous reptiles like dinosaurs. The animals in this context were most likely small dinosaurs.
14:14 prophets prophesy lies. The fact that a person “prophesies” does not necessarily mark him as a prophet of God. There are false prophets, with “false visions,” in every age. They must always be tested by their fidelity to the written Word of God (Isaiah 8:20).
14:22 made all these things. The Gentile nations whose idolatrous religions had seemed so attractive to the people of Israel and Judah were in reality worshiping nature and evolution. But the natural forces of God’s creation can create nothing, for they are creatures themselves. It is the God of creation—that is, the God of Israel—who had “made all these things.”
