New Defender's Study Bible Notes
48:12 I am the first. This is the last of the three divine claims in Isaiah that: “I am the first, I also am the last” (see also Isaiah 41:4; 44:6). The Lord Jesus made the very same claim four times in the book of Revelation, therefore clearly claiming that He is Messiah, and Messiah is eternal God (Revelation 1:11,17; 2:8; 22:13).
48:13 stand up together. The earth and heavens were created and made directly and instantaneously by God’s omniscient omnipotence. There were no ages of trial-and-error by evolution. See Psalm 33:6,9.
48:16 his Spirit, hath sent me. A clear Old Testament indication of the Trinity. The Son, speaking, is being “sent” by the Father and the Spirit.
48:22 no peace. The righteous even now have peace of soul (Romans 5:1) and one day shall enter into eternal peace in the new earth, but the wicked shall never have peace. The same warning is given again by Isaiah in 57:21. Note also Revelation 14:11.
