New Defender's Study Bible Notes
48:1 the tribes. All of Israel’s original tribes will be restored and have portions assigned to them in the millennial promised land. Seven of the tribes (Ezekiel 48:1-7) will have areas north of the sacred portions described in Ezekiel 45:1-7.
48:2 Dan. Even though Dan is not included in the list of tribes in Revelation 7:4-8, the tribe of Dan is listed first in connection with the future division of the lands.
48:8 border of Judah. Judah, as the principal tribe, will have an allotment just north of the sacred portion. The term “reeds” is not in the original. See note on Ezekiel 45:2.
48:9 unto the LORD. See note on Ezekiel 45:1.
48:10 for the priests. See note on Ezekiel 45:4.
48:13 the Levites. See note on Ezekiel 45:5.
48:15 for the city. See note on Ezekiel 45:6.
48:21 for the prince. See note on Ezekiel 45:7.
48:23 rest of the tribes. Five tribes, from Benjamin just south of Jerusalem to Gad at the far south, will have their allotments south of the sacred portion (Ezekiel 48:23-29).
48:31 gates of the city. Just as in the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:12), the millennial Jerusalem will have twelve gates, each identified with one of the twelve tribes.
