New Defender's Study Bible Notes
37:1 Bezaleel made the ark. While Bezaleel evidently taught other workers, and supervised them, he himself evidently worked with everyone so closely that it could finally be said that “Bezaleel...made all that the LORD commanded Moses” (Exodus 38:22).
37:6 made the mercy seat. Exodus 37:1-5 shows that the divine instructions for building the Ark of the Covenant, as given in Exodus 25:10-14, were being carefully followed by Bezaleel. Similarly the instructions for the mercy seat and the cherubim, given in Exodus 25:17-20 are being carried out in Exodus 37:6-9. However, Bezaleel could not place the “testimony”–that is the two stone tablets of the law–into the ark, as God had instructed Moses in Exodus 25:15-16,21-22. Moses must do that himself (Exodus 40:20).
37:10 table of shittim wood. Exodus 37:10-16 on the table for the shewbread correlates with the instructions in Exodus 25:23-29. However, Moses was to place the shewbread on the table himself (25:30; 40:23). Similarly for the golden candlestick, or lampstand (Exodus 25:31-39; 37:17-24; 40:24).
37:25 incense altar. The altar of incense (Exodus 37:25-28) was built by specifications given in Exodus 30:1-6.
