For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.
New Defender's Study Bible Notes
31:5 As birds flying. One might interpret this in terms of the end-time invasion of Israel by the Beast, with the city being delivered by armies flying from heaven with the returning Christ (Revelation 19:14). The near fulfillment, however, would seem to be when the angel of the Lord destroyed the army of the Assyrians who were besieging Jerusalem (II Kings 19:35).
