If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

New Defender's Study Bible Notes

29:9 contendeth with a foolish man. There is nothing to be gained by arguing with a foolish man (“wise in his own conceits”—Proverbs 26:12) about spiritual truths. It will lead either to anger or ridicule, and no conclusion is reached.
