16:16 until John. John the Baptist was not the last Old Testament prophet, for the law and the prophets were in existence until John. John was the first New Testament prophet, preaching the kingdom of God (Matthew 3:1-2) through the work of Jesus Christ (John 1:15-18, 29-34).
