When a bullock, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

22:27 seven days. This stipulation seems to parallel the requirement of seven days before the circumcision of a male child. It also reflects God’s concern for the animal creation. Both the maternal instinct and the milk supply of the mother were to be respected for at least seven days before a young animal could be offered as a sacrifice.
