And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.
 

19:11 city of the Jebusites. The Jebusites were a Canaanite tribe, and the tribes of Judah and Benjamin had been unable to expel them from Jerusalem (Joshua 15:63; 18:21,28). Unfortunately the Levite thought they would be safer in a city of Benjamin than in Jerusalem. Gibeah was a nearby city belonging to Benjamin.
