5:31 love to have it so. This is a sadly ironic indictment of both the people and their religious leaders. It is as true today as it was in Biblical times: the people generally get what they deserve in the way of leaders, both religious and political. God calls this situation “a wonderful and horrible thing” (Jeremiah 5:30).
