And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
 

42:2 pray for us. Johanan and the rest of God’s remnant in Judah, with apparent piety and in respect of Jeremiah’s now-confirmed reputation as a true prophet of God, requested that he pray for God to reveal His will concerning their next move. However, this was merely a sham, since they had already determined what they wanted God to tell them to do (Jeremiah 42:20).
