Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:
 

16:6 nor cut themselves. The pagan customs of cutting and shaving the head in mourning for the dead had been forbidden in the law (Leviticus 19:28; 21:5). Ironically, although the people had lapsed into paganism, there would be no mourning for them even by the pagan customs they had adopted.
