I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
 

42:6 a light of the Gentiles. This prophecy was cited by Simeon in reference to the infant Jesus (Luke 2:32). The Messiah Himself was also to be the new “covenant” of God with Israel (Jeremiah 31:31).
