46:4 upon thine eyes. That is, Jacob would be with his beloved Joseph at his death, and Joseph then would lovingly close his father’s eyes as he died.
46:5 from Beersheba. This was the southern boundary of Jacob’s homeland, so he passed by to sacrifice and pray there before his permanent departure for Egypt. God appeared to him one last time, assuring him this move was in the will of God.
