Just as there were false prophets among the people, so there were false prophetesses; the “pillows” and “kerchiefs” (Ezekiel 13:18) were devices used in their divinations. These also contributed much to Israel’s apostasy. Although many women in Israel and Judah had been devotees of false religion, this is the only specific mention in the Old Testament of women who falsely “prophesy,” practicing sorcery.
