And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.
 

34:1 Hew thee two tables. The first two tables of the law, broken by Moses, were given him by God (Exodus 31:18). This time, Moses was instructed to make two tablets himself, on which God would again write the Ten Commandments (note Exodus 34:28).
